Bilingual Islamic Education: as taken from the Educational Theories of African Muslim Slaves in Antebellum American

The following is a presentation of a series of short articles and notes on Islamic educational theory. This material has not been studied at any great length since its original publication by Theodore Dwight, Jr. in 1835. It is composed of several sections: a brief review of Islam in Africa, Islam in America till 1835, Lamen Kebe’s biographical notes, Lamen Kebe’s teaching method from his own words, a paper on his teaching method, Kebe’s syllabus, and the autobiography of al-Hajj 'Umar ibn Said.
