The Amazing Muslim Worlds, written by Dr. Azhar Majothi and Zaheer Khatri, is a captivating exploration of 1,400 years of Islamic history. This charming picture book covers twelve empires, from the Rashidun to the Ottomans, leaving its Muslim readers with a sense of great pride. For each era, the book mentions a few of the incredible advancements in science, art, and culture, as well as the social and religious growth of that time.
The authors, illustrators, and the publisher did an excellent job helping readers feel connected to each era. Each chapter title has a catchy alliteration, such as “The Admirable Ayyubids” and “The Magnificent Mali Sultanate,” to help readers easily remember those empires. You can tell they really put thought and heart into the reader’s experience. Instead of overwhelming readers with information, they highlight each empire in a delightful manner with concise morsels. The illustrations are top-notch, featuring kind and friendly faces with bright colors. I found myself genuinely enjoying the content, particularly how it showcased the leaders, both men and women, and their accomplishments. At the end of each chapter, the authors also encourage children and readers to connect with that legacy and consider how they, too, can carry it forward.
Considering that this book is a nonfiction history book, I was pleased to find it so inviting. It will be a welcome addition to your picture book collection, as something kids will gravitate toward and something you will enjoy reading to them again and again.
