This book is an English compilation of 40 sayings (hadith) from the Prophet Muhammad, peace to him narrated by 'Aisha, may God be pleased with her. The narration of prophetic speech is among one of the most important tasks in Islam. Without the preservation of prophetic speech, each generation would be more and more confused as to what it means to live an ethical and moral life in accordance with the pleasure of God. 'Aisha is one of the great hadith narrators who kept the speech of the prophet, peace to him, alive by memorizing his words during his lifetime and teaching them to others after his death. Translator: Amjad Mahmood
These two treatises discuss and examine the various aspects of fasting and contribute to serving this great pillar of Islam, written by two eminent scholars; both from the blessed land of Syria.
The first is by Shaykh 'Abd-Allah Siraj al-Din al-Husayni, may Allah be pleased with him, from Allepo wherein the author examines the wisdom behind fasting: its obligations, etiquette, requirements, benefits and virtues. It includes an interesting and lengthy discussion on the Night of Divine Decree (commonly referred to as the Night of Power), exploring its derivation, significance and virtues.
The second is by a contemporary scholar from Damascus, Shaykh Hisham Burhani, and primarily deals with the legal aspects of fasting: its rules and regulations in accordance with the Hanafi school of Islamic Jurisprudence. They serve as a means of providing the believer with indispensable knowledge of this pillar so that he may maximize in reaping the reward and the benefit from the blessed month of Ramadhan; in words of the author, Shaykh Hisham Burhani, Allah has not legislated for us this compulsory hunger every year for an entire month except that every individual should achieve the spiritual, health and social benefits which the legislation of fasting contains.

The heart, in the Islamic understanding, is the expression of a human being’s spiritual existence. It is a Divine gift and Divine subtle faculty bestowed upon humanity. It is a polished mirror reflecting God. This mirror opens onto truth and reality, projects the realms beyond the corporeal world, and creates a bridge between the visible realm with the world of the unseen. Like a general, the heart commands all other bodily organs and faculties, which are its troops. Everything that comes from a human being, whether good or bad, is a product of the heart.
It is perhaps by virtue of this delicate position that the Qur’an teaches Muslims the supplication, “Our Lord, do not let our hearts swerve after You have guided us.” The Messenger of God reminds them of this vital safeguard with the words, “O God, O Converter of hearts! Establish our hearts firmly on Your religion.” Moreover, in its descriptions, the Qur’an approaches the heart as though it were a living being, attributing to it such positive and negative qualities as malady, heedlessness, tenderness, hardness, and repose.
Fethullah Gulen has also elaborated on the heart, placing it at the foundation of many of his thoughts and views. In Gulen’s world of thought, an awakened heart and spirit help us return to our essence, spawning a revival. And individual perfection, as well as attaining the rank of true humanity as a whole, can only be possible again through the awakening and development of the heart.

Webb was a central figure of American Islam during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A native of the Hudson Valley, he was a journalist, editor, and civil servant. Raised a Presbyterian, Webb early on began to cultivate an interest in other religions and became particularly fascinated by Islam. While serving as U.S. consul to the Philippines in 1887, he took a greater interest in the faith and embraced it in 1888, one of the first Americans known to have done so. Within a few years, he began corresponding with important Muslims in India. Webb became an enthusiastic propagator of the faith, founding the first Islamic institution in the United States: the American Mission. He wrote numerous books intended to introduce Islam to Americans, started the first Islamic press in the United States, published a journal entitled The Moslem World, and served as the representative of Islam at the 1893 World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago. In 1901, he was appointed Honorary Turkish Consul General in New York and was invited to Turkey, where he received two Ottoman medals of merits.
In this first-ever biography of Webb, Umar F. Abd-Allah examines Webb's life and uses it as a window through which to explore the early history of Islam in America. It was because he was so typically American that he was able to serve as Islam's ambassador to America (and vice versa). As America's Muslim community grows and becomes more visible, Webb's life and the virtues he championed - pluralism, liberalism, universal humanity, and a sense of civic and political responsibility - exemplify what it means to be an American Muslim.
Reviews:
"A remarkable biography of the intriguing Alexander Russell Webb, one of the earliest American converts to Islam. Webb's efforts to plant Islam in the United States are placed in the historical context of his New York upbringing, the religious developments in Victorian America, and his travels in the Muslim world." --Yvonne Yazbeck Haddad, co-author of Muslim Women in America
"A prodigious study of one of the most important early American Muslims. Webb's tour acoss the Islamic world is captivating, and his interpretation of the faith provides a model for contemporary Islamic thought." --Jane I. Smith, author of Islam in America
"Fascinating for all Muslims and all Americans." --The Muslim World Book Review

This is the first study of a widely used and much-loved prayer by Ibn ‘Arabi, sometimes recited after the Awrad (The Seven Days of the Heart). The Dawr al-a’la (The Most Elevated Cycle), also known as the Hizb al-wiqaya (The Prayer of Protection), is a prayer of remarkable power and beauty. It consists of 33 verses, invoking protection through particular Divine Names and phrases from the Quran. It is said that whoever reads the prayer with sincerity of heart and utter conviction, while making a specific plea, will have their wish granted. This precious book provides a definitive edition of the Arabic text based on a substantial number of the best manuscript copies, and a lucid translation. A transliteration is also provided for those unable to read Arabic. In addition, there is an illuminating analysis of the transmission, presentation and use of the prayer across the centuries. Of particular interest are the major figures in Islamic scholarship and mysticism that have been associated with it, and perceptions of its properties and uses.

The world is at a crossroads today. A tiny minority of Muslims seems to be bent on hijacking the religion of Islam and bringing it into perpetual conflict with the rest of the world. Because of their actions, very few non-Muslims understand the real difference between Islam as it has always been, and the distorted perversions of Islam today. This book is an attempt to positively say what Islam actually is—and always was—as well as what it is not.

From the creation of the very first humans, Adam and Eve, marriage has been an institution chosen by God for the human race as being the only permitted way that a man and woman can spend their lives with each other. Marriage is often portrayed as a fairy-tale, with the couple living happily ever after. However, the reality is that there are always ups and downs in marriage, and dealing with marital issues is not something that you learn in school.
This book is an invaluable resource for people that are intending to marry, or newlyweds, or have been married for many years. It answers many questions that people may have had about the marriage process; choosing the right spouse, the sensitive nature of intimacy and sex, and how to deal with problems and arguments as they come up.
When we can deal with these problems in an expedient and efficient manner, it will result in a harmonious and blissful marriage, God willing. Hopefully, this book will provide all the appropriate resources for couples that want to fill their marriage with happiness and joy. This book is the second work by the author, his first being "Islam: Silencing the Critics".

In an age in which intra-Muslim religious argumentation dominates, heterodox groups have tried and had great success in presenting their beliefs as normative Islam to the average lay Muslim. Unfortunately many of these beliefs are largely at odds with the classical articulations of Sunni orthodoxy throughout the ages.
This work, Ahl al-Sunna : The Ashʿaris, aims to remedy this problem. Drawing from the works of Islam’s greatest scholars through the centuries, Shaykh Hamad al-Sinan and Shaykh Fawzi al-ʿAnjari detail the genesis, rise, beliefs, and contributions of the Ashʿari school of theology, and address—in a refreshingly fair-minded and non-sectarian way—common misconceptions about the Ashʿari school and demonstrate how its rich religious discourse is firmly anchored in the Qurʾan, the Sunna, the way of the Companions, and sound reasoning.

Translated from the original Arabic into English, provides a vivid insight into the moral conduct of the early Muslims in a society led by the perfect character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), ('I was only sent to perfect good character'). The Prophet's Companions represent excellent examples of men of vigorous moral stature whose conduct inspired and attracted the masses to the fold of Islam wherever they went during the expansion of Muslim territories, and contrary to the stereotype portrayal, in the West, of Islam as being spread by the sword.
The Prophet's words are as relevant today as they were fourteen hundred years ago. This unique collection of 1322 ahadith and athar is one of the earliest and most authentic works on Islamic etiquette and the Islamic way of life. Not only are they practical and inspiring, they also fulfill a desperate need for authoritative guide on morality and spirituality for Muslims living in a modern, secular society, where the line between right and wrong is increasingly blurred.
This book is an essential cornerstone of Islamic morality and is suitable for the general reader and the academic alike. Its author, Imam Bukhari (194-256AH / 810 - 870 CE) is the most celebrated figure in Islamic literary history. "Al-Adab Al-Mufrad" is an absolutely essential addition to every Islamic library.

Al-Fiqh al-Akbar is one of the earliest texts written on central Islamic theology, and one of the surviving works of Abu Hanifa, the Great Imam of jurisprudence and theology. Studied for centuries in the Muslim world, Al-Fiqh al-Akbar offers a layered understanding of divine oneness (tawhid), the underpinning of Islamic belief. It helps to refine one's understanding of the Creator, messengers, and divine communication, and enables one, moreover, to gain insight into the realities of this life and the events of the life hereafter. Al-Fiqh al-Akbar adds nuance to one's understanding of 'aqida and deepens one's appreciation of his or her beliefs, and addresses head-on questions that, if unanswered, could leave invidious doubt and cause communal division: "Where is Allah?" "Does Allah evolve?" "What constitutes true Islamic belief?" "Are prophets capable of sinning?" "Is there creation beyond what we see?" "What comes after death?" This translation of Al-Fiqh al-Akbar is an unprecedented contribution to a subject in English. A lucid rendering, unhampered by sterile literalism, it draws on a number of commentaries to unlock for the general English-speaking readership a subject that has been largely inaccessible to them, both because of the subject's complexity and the lack of reliable works in English. This definitive edition, combining Maghnisawi's basic commentary with numerous notes carefully selected from 'AlI al-Qari's super-commentary and the entire Kitab al-Wasiyya of Abu Hanifa, is the English reader's essential guide on the intellectual and rewarding journey through Islamic creed.

Al-Ghazali lived at a time such as the one we live in today, when the inward and outward practices of Islam had become divided and a collective spiritual crisis of the heart prevailed. He realized that in spite of all his knowledge he was of no use battling this crisis because his own heart was filled with pride. How could he aid his brothers in the transformation of their hearts, when his own heart was diseased?
Born in 1058 in Tus, Khorasan, in present-day Iran, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali was one of the most original thinkers the world has known. Besides being a major influence in the Muslim world, the West has also felt his effect. He influenced major figures of medieval philosophy such as Thomas Aquinas and Moses Maimonides, who shaped the philosophy of the Latin West. As the author of some 250 books on topics ranging from theology and ethics to metaphysics and philosophy, al-Ghazali came to be known as ‘Proof of Islam’. For almost a thousand years he has served as an inspiration for spiritual seekers everywhere as he was someone, like the Buddha, willing to give up everything: wealth, position, family and comfort in order to search for Truth.
This film sets out to discover who al-Ghazali was and whether we, living in the 21st century, can still find relevance in his teaching.

FAMOUS FIQH BOOKS like al-Maqasid have stood the test of time because of their sheer usefulness. Compact enough to be memorized by students becoming scholars, al-Maqasid contains hundreds of rulings of personal Islamic law distilled from the most commonly asked and answered questions in schools and mosques from the time of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) down to Imam Nawawi.
Widely considered the best medium-size handbook available in English for teaching the basics of Islam from a traditional perspective, this new edition has been revised and updated with a full complement of notes on a number of contemporary Muslim issues, and three major essays have been appended on why Muslims follow madhhabs, hadiths the mujtahid Imams lacked, and the place of Sufism in Islam.

This book is an adaptation in English of the prefatory volume of a 40-volume biographical dictionary (in Arabic) of women scholars of the Prophet’s hadith. Learned women enjoyed high public standing and authority in the formative years of Islam. For centuries thereafter, women travelled intensively for religious knowledge and routinely attended the most prestigious mosques and madrasas across the Islamic world. Typical documents (like class registers and ijazahs from women authorizing men to teach) and the glowing testimonies about their women teachers from the most revered ulema are cited in detail. An overview chapter, with accompanying maps, traces the spread of centres of hadith learning for women, and their eventual decline. The information summarized here is essential to a balanced appreciation of the role of women in Islamic society.
“...read today, when many Muslim women still don’t dare pray in mosques, let alone lecture leaders in them, Akram’s entry for someone like Umm al-Darda, a prominent jurist in seventh-century Damascus, is startling. As a young woman, Umm al-Darda used to sit with male scholars in the mosque, talking shop... She went on to teach hadith and fiqh, or law, at the mosque, and even lectured in the men’s section; her students included the caliph...” (New York Times)
“...replete with enlightening references... the standard introduction to the study of the women scholars of Islam.” (Muslim World Book Review)
